June 2018 Issue of KAS Monthly to Feature Profile of and Contributing Article by Circuit Judge Jamie

Circuit Judge James T. “Jamie” Jameson of the 42nd Judicial Circuit (Marshall and Calloway counties) will be the subject of the fifth installment of Kentucky Appellate Survey Monthly’s ongoing “Judicial Focus” series. An extensive interview with Judge Jameson will be featured in the June issue of KAS Monthly. Judge Jameson has also authored an article, to be published in the June issue, entitled The Status of Blood & Breath “Searches” Conducted During a DUI Investigation: Does DUI Law in Kentucky Need Cleaning Up?

“We are pleased that Judge Jameson has agreed to participate in our Judicial Focus series, and we are especially excited to publish what we hope will be just the first of many special articles authored by Kentucky judges for inclusion in future issues of KAS Monthly,” said Managing Editor Edward M. O’Brien and Executive Editor Nicholas E. Whitt. “Coming off the heels of our recent, highly successful ‘Candidate Focus Series,’ the return of the Judicial Focus Series will further our mission to provide quality and timely content to our subscribers and all members of the bench and bar.” Judge Jameson follows former Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Mary Noble, Circuit Judge David A. Tapp of the 28th Judicial Circuit, Kentucky Court of Appeals Judge Denise Clayton of Louisville, and Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Ann Bailey Smith as subjects of the series, which strives to bring the bench and bar together by providing the insights and perspectives of Kentucky's judges on a wide range of issues.

Raised on a small family farm in southern Marshall County, Kentucky, Judge Jamie Jameson was the youngest of five children born to Robert and Charlene Jameson. Judge Jameson discovered a love for music at an early age that developed into his opening a music store in Murray, Kentucky, in 1994, a business he operated while attending Murray State University from 2001 to 2004. After graduating from Murry State University magna cum laude in 2004, Judge Jameson and wife Jenny moved to Northern Kentucky, where he attended and graduated from Salmon P. Chase College of Law on the campus of Northern Kentucky University.

After graduating law school, Judge Jameson was appointed by Governor Steve Beshear as Director of Consumer Protection & Education in the Kentucky Department of Insurance in early 2008. Judge Jameson left this position a year later to join the agency that had allowed him fall in love with the law through an externship during law school, the Kentucky Department of Public Advocacy. Judge Jameson began his career with DPA in the Covington trial office, where he learned to handle unmanageable caseloads and litigate like a lawyer.

Judge Jameson and his wife transferred home to Western Kentucky in 2011, where Jamie worked out of the Murray trial office of DPA representing clients in the Marshall and Calloway county courts until he was forced to take medical leave due to a potentially devastating cancer diagnosis and treatment in 2012. Judge Jameson returned to work in April of 2013 and remained with the Murray trial office of DPA until July of 2015, when he decided to enter the race to fill the unexpired term of now-retired Circuit Judge Dennis Foust. Judge Jameson was elected to the bench on November 3, 2015.
